From The Reclaim: Beyond Your June Book Club Pick
Recently there have been a plethora of anti-racist reading lists taking over the internet.
This isn’t another list.
Ever since I was a kid I’ve loved to read. From tearing through Nancy Drew to tackling Shakespeare in AP English; even in grad school I’ve managed to set aside time to read for myself in addition to the countless journal articles I’ve read in the last year for class. I’ve set a personal annual reading goal since I opened a Goodreads account in college, but heading into 2019, I wanted to make some changes. I can’t remember what sparked my thought process, but I thought a lot about how most of the books I was reading were not reflective of the broader world we all live in. I was reading good books, but most were written by men. White men. And I thought… why?
